ARTS, BRIEFLY; City Opera Trims Next Season
Only concert performances will be presented by the New York City Opera in the 2008-9 season while renovations are taking place at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center. The company will return to the theater in 2009-10, its first season under its new general manager and artistic director, Gerard Mortier. The 2008-9 presentations will be 90-minute concert versions of works by Pierre Boulez, Britten, Debussy, Ives, Messaien and Stravinsky, who are expected to be represented in the 2009-10 schedule. The company will announce the specifics and sites of the 2008-9 season next month. Renovation of the State Theater, which it shares with the New York City Ballet, will include a large and movable orchestra pit.
