Danish National Chamber Orchestra saved by crowdfunding

Orchestra appeals to public for support after loss of state funding

30 January 2015 - 2:00pm

By Rosie Pentreath

After being disbanded due to state funding cuts at the beginning of this year, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra has raised enough money to play again.

The orchestra, founded 75 years ago, has been running an appeal for public support since its funding was cancelled on 1 January. After setting up a campaign to raise 3m Danish kroner (£300,000) on Kickstarter, it secured a third of funds needed from private donations and has had pledges from Danish businesses for the rest of the money it needs.
