Charity Drive Aims to Collect Musical Instruments for New York Students

March 25, 2014, 2:17 pm

The classical music radio station WQXR 105.9 FM has started a musical instrument drive, with the goal of collecting 1,000 instruments from donors in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, to be used by public school students. The station said that the drive was inspired by a similar program undertaken by Colorado Public Radio. The station’s partners in the program are Sam Ash music stores, which will recondition the used instruments that are collected, and the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which the composer Michael Kamen started in 1996 to distribute instruments to underfunded schools.
