Established pop, rock and roots musicians like Rufus Wainwright, Jonny Greenwood and Chris Thile tackle classical forms

Classical music is becoming the new pop.

As the music world reels from declining sales, the one bright spot in the market this year came not from rap, rock, or electronic dance music, but from classical. Sales were up nearly 5% last year, according to Nielsen SoundScan

At the same time, rock dipped 5.9% and country plunged a whopping 10.7%.


Crosser “popera” artists like Andrea Bocelli sells tons of albums.
