Mr. Reich, widely considered one of the most influential composers in contemporary music, has authored some 50 works beginning in the mid-1960s. His music has employed, and sometimes pioneered, a variety of compositional techniques — from the use of taped-speech (“It’s Gonna Rain,” “Come Out”) and instrument phasing (“Violin Phase,” “Piano Phase”), to epic rhythmic and melodic explorations (“Drumming,” “Music for 18 Musicians”), personal-historical narrative (“Different Trains”), and video opera (“Three Tales”). His discography is so far comprised of more than 30 recordings on several labels.

Mr. Reich has received many awards and honors including Japan’s Preamium Imperial award in Music in 2006 and, most recently, the Polar Music Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2007.
